VALORANT · MOVEMENT GUIDE

Valorant movementthat wins the first shot.

In Valorant, you can't move and shoot well at the same time. Good movement is knowing when to stop, how to peek and when to swing. Here is how counter-strafing, jiggle peeks and wide swings work — plus a drill to practice them.

How it works

Watch it track a strafing agent.

Valorant AI works from the game image: it finds the agent, moves your aim onto it and stays with it through every strafe. A crosshair moved by hand falls behind on each change of direction.

Counter-strafing

Stop first. Then shoot.

Valorant punishes shots on the move. Your bullets spread while you run, and your accuracy comes back once you stand still. Counter-strafing is how you get there fast.

How moving changes your accuracy in Valorant
What you are doingAccuracyBest use
Standing stillThe best. The first bullet goes where you aimTaps, bursts and sprays with any gun
CrouchingVery good, and your head drops below the enemy's aimLong sprays, once the fight has started
Walking (Shift)Poor with rifles, but your steps are silentMoving quietly, not shooting
RunningVery poor with rifles. Shotguns and SMGs keep moreClose fights with a shotgun or an SMG
In the airThe worst. Shots go almost anywhereCrossing gaps, never fighting

A general guide. Exact accuracy differs from weapon to weapon.

01

Move

Strafe to the side with A or D, the way you would to peek a corner.

02

Tap the other key

Let go and tap the opposite key for a split second. Your character stops almost at once.

03

Shoot, then move

Fire while you are still, then start moving again. Repeat it until it feels like one smooth motion.

Letting go of the key also stops you. Tapping the opposite key just makes the stop a little sharper, so the real habit is simple: be still when you click.

See when you have stopped

Our crosshair codes include a movement-error trainer. Its lines open while you move and close once you stand still.

Crosshair codes
Peeks

Four ways to take an angle.

How you leave cover decides who sees whom first. Each peek has a job, so pick the one that fits what you need to know.

Jiggle peek

Strafe out a little and straight back, fast. You see who is there without giving a clean shot. Good for baiting an Operator shot.

Wide swing

Swing far from the wall at full speed, stop and shoot. An enemy aiming tight on the corner has to move their crosshair further to find you.

Slice the angle

Step out a little at a time and clear the angle piece by piece, so you only face one spot at once. Slow, but safe.

Jump peek

Jump past a gap to look, not to fight. You see where they are, then land back in cover. Useful for spotting an Operator early.

Crouch, run, walk

When to crouch, and when to run.

Crouching, running and walking all change your accuracy. At the right moment, each one helps. At the wrong moment, each one gets you killed.

Crouch late, not early

Crouch after the first bullets, when a spray goes long. Your head drops below the enemy's aim. Crouch before the fight and you are slow and easy to hit.

Running shots

Rifles, the Sheriff and the Operator lose most of their accuracy while you run. Shotguns and SMGs keep more of it, so they suit close fights on the move.

Walk to stay quiet

Holding Shift makes your steps silent, but it doesn't make rifles accurate. Walk to sneak up, then stop before you fire.

Bunny hop

Bunny hop basics, and why a script is pointless.

A bunny hop means jumping again the moment you land while you steer in the air. Many players search for it, so here is what it really does in Valorant.

What it does

Chained jumps can carry your speed from one jump to the next. They don't make you much faster than running, and every landing makes noise.

Where it helps

Crossing a gap or taking a quick look over a box. A jump is a way to move, not a way to fight: shots in the air go almost anywhere.

Why a bhop script is pointless

It only times your jumps. It can't make air shots accurate or add real speed, and it is still a macro running next to the game, with the same risks as any other.

Valorant AI

You handle the movement.
It takes the shot.

Movement wins you the first look. Valorant AI makes that look count: the moment an enemy is on your crosshair, it fires in about 5 ms.

Bhop or movement script

  • ✕Times a key press, nothing more
  • ✕Can't make your shots more accurate
  • ✕Doesn't know where the enemy is

Valorant AI

  • ✓Fires in 5 ms when an enemy is on your crosshair
  • ✓AI aim assist helps your crosshair onto them
  • ✓Works from the game image only

Practice drill

A movement drill for every warm-up.

Do this before you play, every day for a week. The goal: stopping before you shoot happens without you thinking about it.

01

Strafe and stop

In the Range, strafe left and right in front of a bot. Tap the opposite key, fire one shot, move again. Count your headshots.

02

Watch the crosshair

Use a movement-error crosshair and only fire once its lines have closed. If they are still open, you were still moving.

03

Peek a corner

Use a wall in the Range to practice jiggle peeks and wide swings, and stop before every shot.

04

Take it to Deathmatch

Play one Deathmatch and think only about stopping before each shot. Ignore the score: the habit is what counts.

Next: your aim

Movement makes you still. Our aim tips cover where your crosshair should be when you stop.

FAQ

Questions

What is counter-strafing in Valorant?

Tapping the opposite movement key to stop quickly before you shoot. Moving right with D? Let go, tap A for a split second, then fire while you are still.

Do you need to counter-strafe in Valorant?

You need to be still when you click. Letting go of the key stops you too, but tapping the opposite key makes the stop a little sharper. Either way, don't fire a rifle while you are still moving.

Can you bunny hop in Valorant?

You can chain jumps and keep some of your speed, but it doesn't make you much faster than running, and shots in the air are very inaccurate. Use jumps to move, not to fight.

Is a Valorant bhop script worth it?

No. It only times your jumps for you. It adds no accuracy and no real speed, and it is still a macro running next to the game. Learn the timing on your own.

Which guns can you shoot while moving?

Shotguns and SMGs keep the most accuracy on the move, so they suit close fights. Rifles, the Sheriff and the Operator need you to stop first. For rifle sprays, see the spray control guide.

Does crouching help your aim?

It can help during a long spray, and it drops your head below the enemy's aim. Crouch after the fight starts, not before: while crouched, you move very slowly.

How does Valorant AI help with movement?

You keep moving and peeking your way. When an enemy is on your crosshair, the 5 ms triggerbot fires, and AI aim assist helps your crosshair onto them. It works only from the game image and never touches the game's memory or files.
